John Dixon

John prefers where possible to work outside, despite the weather, and has sat in snow drifts in Norway and the rain in Scotland, with pad and pencil inside a polythene bag. Such self-inflicted dedication encourages him to paint quickly. Most of his work is completed in about two hours; beyond that there is a danger of overworking and loss of spontaneity. Consequently, he paints mainly in watercolour and pastel, both of which give immediate results. Although he prefers to paint quickly, for some paintings many hours may be spent thinking and planning in advance.
