Welcome to the Web Site of The Italian Madrigal Group Artistic Director: ~Simon Haynes
The Italian Madrigal Group was founded in April 1998 by Julian Stocker and Simon Haynes to explore the secular music of 16th and 17th century Italy. Consisting of a dozen or so established singers and instrumentalists (see Personnel), the Group's repertoire encompasses intimate settings for solo voice and theorbo, a capella madrigals and larger scale works for voices, strings, cornetts, sackbuts and continuo. As well as the performance of established repertoire, the group is dedicated to the unearthing and performance of relatively unknown music, much of which has never been heard since it was written in the 16th and 17th centuries. The group also commissions works from today's leading composers. A demo CD recorded live from a concert given at St. Giles' Church, Cripplegate, London is available to concert promoters and festival organisers on request.
